WHAT IS SOFTWARE

The concept of software is a new phenomenon in human history. Software means programmatic action which is saved in your computer memory. Alan Turing, in 1935, was the first person who postulated the theory of software, which can be used for computing or which can be used in a computer.

HISTORY OF SOFTWARE

Computers, as we all know, have been there for hundreds and thousands of years, in the form of abacus and other different machines. In the 1920s and 1930s, humans started building mainframe computers. These were huge computers. The mission of Nasa, at that time, required a lot of software applications to use during the launch. In 1961, there was a machine called CMX 600, which was the first editing system to be used for editing. It was a huge machine which needed tapes inside it. So it was not very portable. We could not shift those and we have built it from the ground up. In the late 1980s to early 1990s, the digital revolution arrived and big companies like Adobe, Apple, Microsoft started making software. All these companies started making technology which enabled the later companies like Google, Amazon to establish in the late nineties this digital as a form of business. Apple, Adobe, Microsoft, IBM started bundling the software with the hardware. This was a new thing and it became a business that the hardware will come with the software. It will be bundled together.

HISTORY OF EDITING SOFTWARE

The late 1980s to early 1990s was the age when different kinds of software were made. Video editing systems NLE was also developing around this period of time. In 1992 there was a film Let’s Kill All the Lawyers, which was the first film edited in NLE. By 1993-94 only five to ten films were edited using NLE. But the year 1995 is when the software became more popular and people realized how fast it was. About one hundred films were edited on a digital editing system during that year itself.
